Standard (or traditional) pool covers—especially many budget-friendly or basic winter/solid covers—are often made from polyethylene (PE) or similar poly-based fabrics like woven polyethylene mesh with coatings. Polyethylene is lightweight, affordable, flexible, and provides good basic protection against debris, UV exposure (when stabilized), and weather. It's commonly used in things like solar bubble covers, mesh safety covers, or entry-level solid tarps because it's cost-effective and easy to handle.

  • Longer lifespan — PVC covers often last significantly longer (many sources note 7–10+ years or even decades with proper care) compared to polyethylene options, which may degrade or need replacement sooner (1–5 years for lighter PE types).
